I've also spent time volunteering in the Dominican Republic and it was amazing. I wish that I had the opportunity to spend more time with the locals the way you did. My dad and his softball team played against local teams in an effort to raise money for a fresh water well for surrounding communities. We gave out sports equipment and food bags to the communities during our time off from softball. At the end of the trip, we were able to go up the mountain to the well that was built on our behalf for one of the communities. It was an incredible experience that I would love to relive. I'm glad that you've also gotten the chance to help those in need. It's a phenomenal feeling!

Hey Amber,

It's really cool to hear about your previous experiences with travelling (both domestically and abroad) and volunteering in other countries! Most of my travels have been within the US, but I had a couple trips out. I hadn't thought of what effects trade agreements could have on health in regards to the Dominican Republic and Haiti. It is eye opening to read even a little bit about it! I look forward to traveling to London and exploring public health with you!

Hey Amber! I am also a military brat so it's really cool to read about how our experiences both domestically and abroad are similar. I think it is really cool how you got to travel on a medical trip to the Dominican Republic. I'm really interested in speaking to you more about what health care is like in the DR and how it compares to health care in the U.S. See you in London!
